One life experience that has shaped me into who I am today was being a commercial whitewater river guide for three summers. I navigated guests through class II-IV whitewater while keeping them safe and providing a fun, memorable experience. This leadership role taught me to persevere through high-stress environments and conditions.
I practiced my public speaking skills by presenting river safety information to large groups of guests, including what to do in critical situations and the local area’s history. I also had the opportunity to connect with nature by rafting and camping along the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon for 280 miles, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
